i'm a lego fanatic, so i can appreciate what you are doing here. one thing i would mention is that presentation is as important as the subject itself; try clearing the papers and random stuff off the desk before you shoot. better yet, set up a backdrop--either dark or light sheets or something, or even a matte painting if you have one that would work.
